Sr Formulation Scientist

The Sr. Formulation Scientist leads R&D projects within the Automotive, Medical, and Electronics business, generating UV curable technologies, epoxy and acrylic chemistry, using process or method concepts leveraging the Stage-Gate process discipline to meet market and business needs. The Sr. Formulation Scientist coaches, mentors and guides research of technical colleagues and reports to the R&D Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead large-scale research and development projects, using project management discipline, design of experiment (DOE) methodologies and statistical analysis to draw conclusions and present solutions based on understanding of structure-property-performance relationships.

  • Generate new products, process or method concepts within an area of specialty.

  • Meet research goals within time and budget constraints.

  • Provide technical leadership of projects through the Stage-Gate process.

  • Prepare and present reports to customers and business leaders.

  • Participate in global or cross-functional project teams, collaborating across functional and regional boundaries.

  • Coaching and mentoring others in the lab.

  • Support operations to facilitate scale-up and efficient production of developed technologies.

  • Fulfill responsibilities as required by the Quality System for the site/business unit.

  • Work in a safe and efficient manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science and 5 years of professional industry experience OR
    Masters degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science and 3 years of professional industry experience OR
    PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science

  • Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical tools experience.

  • Project management and Stage-Gate experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply and interpret standard scientific theories, concepts and techniques in a scientific or engineering specialty. 

  • Experience generating new products, process or method concepts within an area of specialty.

  • Experience delivering internal and customer presentations.

  • Ability to travel up to 20%.

Preferred Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Polymer & Materials Science & Engineering with 3 years of chemical industry experience.

  • 3+ years’ experience with UV curable technologies, epoxy and acrylic chemistry, polyurethane chemistry.

  • 3+ years’ experience with planning and leading large scale projects using project management and Stage-Gate discipline.

This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship. Applicants must have U.S. work authorization that does not now or in the future require H.B. Fuller sponsorship of a work visa to work for H.B. Fuller.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $95,000 - $115,000.
