Position Overview
The Production Planning Specialist is responsible for creating and maintaining plant production schedules, ensuring optimal resource allocation, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This role collaborates closely with plant operations and other stakeholders to guarantee timely communication of production changes and adherence to customer requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Production Planning (Scheduling) – 50%
• Create plant production plans by work center based on MPS and specific plant/technology requirements
• Analyze production issues and indicate level of impact and reason codes in the system
• Propose potential schedule reallocations among plants
• Analyze demand forecasts and historical production data to predict future production needs
Allocation Review – 25%
• Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods to ensure adequate supply for production
• Allocate resources effectively to meet production schedules, ensuring optimal use of labor, machinery, and materials
Short-Term Communication and Decision Making – 20%
• Identify and communicate any planning issues causing deviations from production schedule and customer orders
• Maintain and communicate changes to production planning
• Collaborate with plant operations to ensure timely communication of production changes to all internal and external stakeholders
• Attend daily, weekly, and monthly meetings with plant operations
Continuous Improvement – 5%
• Recommend opportunities for continuous improvement in production planning processes and policies
• Participate as a team member in ad-hoc projects with Operations and planning stakeholders
• Track key KPIs related to plant production planning and support preparation of reports on production outputs
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or related field
• 2–3 years of experience in production planning or scheduling in a manufacturing environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (SAP preferred)
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across teams
Preferred Requirements
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives
• Familiarity with demand forecasting and inventory management
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
