Quality Assurance Specialist

1st Shift: 6:45a - 3:15p

A Quality Scientist will be the stand in for the department supervisor for all technical concerns. This person will become proficient in all analytical and R&D lab operations. This is a matrixed position supporting Quality, Operations and R&D. This is not the typical lab assignment. The position will lead the ISO9001 internal audit team with the guidance of the QA Supervisor, perform SPC studies, work with the quality and operations group to transition to electronic SOP training and tracking. The position will need to successfully train and complete general lab tech tasks such as inventory movements and general batch checking. They will also work to maintain quality lab equipment as well upkeep of general lab supplies. This position will also fill in for lab techs when needed. This includes off shifts 2nd and 3rd.

The successful individual will possess both analytical lab and process improvement experience and we prefer candidates that have chemical polymerization, mixing and blending experience, a history of interacting with customers and suppliers focused on improving customer relationships and supplier quality. Also, experience working in a Process Safety Management covered environment is a plus. 

Our operation is currently a 3 shift, 5 days per week, 24 hour per day operation. The lab is staffed 24/5. This position is 5 days per week on dayshift, shift start/stop time is flexible as agreed to by the QA supervisor. After hours calls are possible.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Manages assets efficiently from an environmental, health, safety perspective while ensuring quality production, high customer service levels, low inventory and keeping costs/expenses within target budget guidelines.
  • Aligns continuous improvement initiatives with strategic objectives and key performance metrics to successfully manage programs and processes that support strategic goals, particularly as they relate to quality and the journey to zero defects.
  • Drives operational improvements in safety, quality and productivity by employing Lean, Six Sigma, and Operational Discipline methodologies to achieve business objectives.
  • Creates a culture where safety is a value that results in top quartile safety performance, where the organization proactively identifies and reduces risk to create a safe and healthy work experience for all.
  • Promotes a “Customer First” mindset and culture through proactive employee identification of process improvements to yield superior quality and customer service in accordance with targeted metrics.
  • Complies with and proactively adheres to all governmental regulations and requirements.
  • Exhibits strong influencing skills in a matrix environment, by being approachable and involved with key constituencies at all levels and working effectively across geographic/functional lines.
  • Experience and demonstrated capability with a global ERP/SAP systems.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree required (Chemistry or Engineering degree preferred)
  • Knowledge of the chemistry and processes involved in the manufacturing of polymers, UV, and blended final mixed solutions is ideal.  Ideal candidate can be entry-level or 3+ years of experience if has co-op/intern experience in an applicable industry.
  • Ideal candidate is an experienced quality or process professional with three years of lab, quality and/or process manufacturing experience who operates with a sense of urgency and brings a proven track record in transforming site manufacturing. He/she comes from an environment of equivalent size, complexity and multiple products and applications.
  • Management of Change process understanding or experience.
  • A point of contact on customer complaints and experience completing root cause and corrective actions.
  • Hands on analytical lab experience operating equipment such as GC, HPLC, FTIR, Viscometer, pH meter, Gravimetric analysis.
  • Effectively engage employees at all levels in a positive manner that fosters team building and community, and help identify succession plans for high potential employees.
  • Must possess effective, strong communications and analytical skills, be persuasive and have good general management acumen.

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Experience building BOM, knowledge of chemistry, getting formulas out of system.
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP database management systems.
  • Knowledge of the chemistry and processes involved in the manufacturing of polymers, UV, and blended final mixed solutions.
  • Six Sigma certification, (Green or Black Belt), experience in design for Six Sigma DFSS.
  • Exposure to applications using continuous improvement techniques; TQM, Problem Solving DMAIC, Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA’s, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Value Stream mapping and etc.
  • Knowledge, experience and demonstrated results improving process capability, monitoring, and controlling via a Capability Index.
  • Experience with adhesives manufacturing or use as a base material.
  • Demonstrates Business Acumen and Business Agility.
  • Engages in effective operational and strategic planning.
  • Familiar with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements  

Physical Environment:

  • Physical activities require continuous hearing; frequent talking, sitting, typing, handling and repetitive motions of hands/wrists, standing, climbing ladders/steps, and walking.  Position will carry and lift up to 50lbs, with or without assistance. 
  • This position requires regular movement between multiple buildings and work areas throughout the workday. Employees will be required to walk outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and other seasonal conditions. The role also requires periodic work in warehouse and manufacturing environments where temperatures may fluctuate based on seasonal and operational conditions. Employees must be able to safely navigate production, warehouse, and office environments while complying with all safety requirements.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 based on experinece.
