The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager reports to the Global Safety Manager and has primary responsibility for management of the South Bend, IN facility’s EHS program and processes. 

This individual will be responsible for ensuring that effective compliant programs are in place for the facility, meeting company policy and goals, and implementing the corporate EHS program, they will also be heavily involved in program implementation and maintenance. They will spend a significant portion of time walking the manufacturing areas of the facility and interacting with plant and supervisory personnel.

Primary Duties

  • Safety, environmental, and industrial hygiene site responsibilities

  • Understand and assist in assessing facility exposures.

  • Drive and maintain compliance with the site’s Title V air permit.

  • Manage regulated and hazardous waste for Large Quantity Generators of Hazardous Waste (LQG) site.

  • Support newly built bottle filling operation at a separate second facility 1.5 miles from the plant.

  • Manage EHS Specialist

  • Budgetary and financial accountability

  • Comply with Federal, State, Local and Internal requirements.

  • Operate in a manner that minimizes safety and health risk and company liability.

  • Use EHS tools - webpage, databases, online training and programs guidance.

  • Implement activities, programs, and training for existing and pending Safety and Health requirements.

  • Recognize and resolve at risk conditions that could potentially lead to significant events, and noncompliance situations.

  • Guide to the facility leadership in the area of EHS

  • Support the completion of facility corrective and preventive actions.

  • Coordinate and support regional and corporate compliance programs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, chemistry, or engineering field

  • 5 years' experience in an EHS focused role in a manufacturing environment.

  • OSHA, EPA, NFPA & PSM experience

  • Project management and in-house training experience on a variety of EHS topics in accordance with EHS management objectives

  • Accident and Incident Investigation and analysis experience per EHS management directives and operational requirements

  • Experience encouraging collaboration, trust and cooperation among and within work groups

  • Ability to provide leadership in identifying, prioritizing and ensuring resolution of all EHS non-conformances.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • MS Office experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chemical processing environment experience

  • Union plant experience
