Position Title: Accounting Analyst I

Location: Tres Rios, Costa Rica and include Hybrid

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is part of LASS (Latin America Shared Services) and plays a tax analyst role for Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile to ensure the appropriate compliance of the indirect tax, who will report directly to the Indirect Taxes Lead.

Responsible to deliver on time and with quality the indirect tax requirements applicable, according to the tax law in the countries, such as VAT, withholding tax, and municipal taxes.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Prepare the different returns related to indirect taxes for Argentina as well as support transactional activities for the other countries.

  • Ensure the timely filing of tax returns and avoid any potential delay, fines, and penalties chargeable to the company.

  • Support the month-end close tax accounting entries as well as following the balance sheet review.

  • Prepare and load in the "Blackline" (Balance sheet review tool) the monthly journal entries related to indirect taxes.

  • Prepare in Blackline indirect tax monthly accounts reconciliations – USGAAP and Local GAAP 

  • Support internal, external, and statutory audits.

  • When audited by the local tax authorities, work in preparation of the information requested in coordination with the finance department and tax advisors. 

  • Work in the recovery or application of any indirect tax credit with the support and guidance of local advisors.

  • Keep updated on changes in legislation or new pronouncements referring to indirect taxes.

  • He/She will interact with third parties located in the countries, such as external tax advisors, and tax authorities (jointly with R2R and direct tax department).

  • Comply with Internal Controls and SOX requirements

  • Support the business in new taxes projects and business initiatives with indirect tax backload.

  • Work in the implementation of new indirect taxes requirements and coordinate the implementation of these changes in the ERP system and the areas involved.

  • Develop projects or re-apply processes to improve current ones in the region, searching for process standardization and automation.

  • Create or update standard operating procedures (SOP) of every handle process.

  • Participate actively in the application, controlling, and creation of KPIs.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned in addition to the above-mentioned tasks, other activities and responsibilities may be individually defined by the Manager.

Interactions

Internal:

  • Accounts Payable, Accounts receivable, Treasury, Fixed Assets, Intercompany, Payroll and HR Management, Operations, Sales, IT, Internal Audit, Corporate Tax department

External:

  • External tax advisors and country tax authorities (AFIP, SII, DIAN, SAT, Ministerio de Hacienda, Municipalities).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor´s degree in Finance / Accounting or related field

  • Qualified Accountant

  • 2+ years' experience.

  • Previous experience with indirect tax.

  • Experience working with an ERP system, preferably SAP.

  • Microsoft Office package (Excel mainly and Power BI desirable).

  • Advanced English

  • Communication skills, and effective communication with stakeholders.

  • Process and system capabilities.

  • Organized, Self-motivated, Professional, and Excellent Analytical Skills.

  • Independent, Proactive with interpersonal skills.

  • Eager to take on new responsibilities.
