The Technical Solutions / Applications Engineer is responsible to define, lead and run the TSR (Technical Solutions Request) process to fulfill all technical requirements from the market and inside H.B. Fuller to meet market and business needs.  Process or method concepts should be leveraged to achieve the best possible results.

The Engineer has a deep understanding of markets and applications, enabling him/her to proactively identify new opportunities and gain buy-in from senior leadership to create projects or initiatives. In this position the ability to collaborate and communicate across disciplines, functions and regions is highly valued. The Engineer also works closely with the technical colleagues in the R&D group.

Responsibilities include:

Manage technical support and trial material evaluations on internal and customer laminating / coating equipment to evaluate developmental products and provide samples for customers.

Oversee timely resolutions of Customer Complaints.  Assist customers in resolving problems with their lamination operations and end-use performance. Troubleshoot new & existing packaging lamination problems involving materials & processes. Demonstrate proficiency with using industry-standard analytical techniques, including FT-IR, GC/MS, Microscopy, and more.  Provide creative, timely & cost-efficient solutions. 

Interface with Management and Sales to support account initiatives.  Develop relationships with current and potential customers to promote H.B. Fuller products to meet customers’ specific product needs.  Audit customer operations and recommend solutions for improved safety performance, scrap reduction, and increased profitability.  Recommend products based on end-user requirements and optimal cost.  Interface with the Regulatory Group to provide required documents.  Collaborate with Product Development regarding product modifications needed to meet customers’ product specifications. 

Develop relationships with co-suppliers to meet customers’ specific product needs.  Collaborate with co-suppliers to anticipate future market trends and customer needs.

Support Marketing efforts to promote products, including webinars, training seminars, etc.   Develop training materials and conduct on-site seminars with customer operators, engineers, and non-technical managerial staff. 

Collaborate with other H.B. Fuller Technical Service and Sales teams to leverage adjacencies.

For the right candidate, support operations/tolling related to the Flexible Packaging product line.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, or related technology
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Flexible Packaging or a related manufacturing/engineering capacity.
  • Project Management Experience
  • Process Experience:  Demonstrated process improvement competency.
  • Computer:  The candidate should be knowledgeable in the use of software including Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Plant Safety:  The individual must have experience in general plant safety.  Knowledge of confined space entry, lockout/tag out, process safety management, and burn permit requirements is essential. 
  • Lean six sigma (LSS) / statistical tools
  • Ability to present root cause analyses and solutions
