Position: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Location: Brussels (onsite)

For this role, we are seeking a candidate who resides in Belgium and possesses at least B2 proficiency in the Dutch language.

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist reports to the Facility Manager with a dotted line to the EIMEA EHS Manager and has primary responsibility for the execution and development of the facility’s EHS program and processes. The position will be responsible for ensuring that effective, compliant programs are executed at the facility, meeting company policy and goals, and implementing the corporate EHS program, and heavily involved in program implementation, maintenance and tracking.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Safety Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain the corporate employee safety management system within the plant.
  • Assess training requirements and needs, implement, conduct/coordinate and maintain safety training plan for the plant.
  • Support and manage EHS software suite.
  • Support incident investigations on work-related injuries and near miss events, establish and help implement associated corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensures that appropriate personal protective equipment is specified, and system is in place to provide PPE to plant employees.
  • Support and lead plant audit process.
  • Communicate plant EHS goals, metrics and progress.
  • Coordinate the development of facility leading indicators and ensure that reporting procedures exist and are known for work-related injuries or illnesses.
  • Maintain injury and illness database.
  • Provide active follow-up to resolve any facility safety concerns.
  • Support the management of change process at the facility.
  • Supports budget considerations for EHS implications.

Environmental Duties and Responsibilities include

  • Support data collection and annual review for the facility’s Operating permit and interface with supporting consultant.
  • Support staff with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management.
  • Collect enter and review sustainability data and support goals established as a part of the global program.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate training of personnel to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Support Hazardous Waste data collection and associated packaging reporting requirements for Construction Adhesives.

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Associate degree or 2+ years EHS experience (prefferably within the Chemicals Industry environment)
  • Holder of the EHS Prevention Advisor Level II certification
  • Experience working in a EHS focused role.
  • Experience in data management, program tracking, team and project organization.
  • Organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Skills in Microsoft office suite.
